Spa Shower by the Beach - COMPLETE

Here is the final result from April 3rd's blog post:  "This Shower is HOT!".

The clients are pleased and I'm stoked!  It didn't go without glitches as the GC "warned me" about specifying the poly-resin crown moulding ever again as it gave him a run for his money.  Other modifications made were cutting the large field tile in the shower bays because of the need to slope for better drainage.  The 12"x12" tiles didn't give enough room to slope appropriately within the short run and had to be cut down to 6"x6"; modifying the bullnose trim tile to run the full vertical length on the shower bay partitions -- this was a great recommendation by the tile sub and the result was an uninterrupted frame around all of the partition edges.

The overall effect was achieved and the space functions perfectly with additional lighting, significantly better slip resistance through the use of more appropriate floor tiles, and incorporating the spa-like feel through the use of the color and layout of the tiles.

What would I have done differently?  I would have demo'd the glass block windows because it's throwing off the mojo AND ends up being a focal point to boot!   Also, I would have only used one horizontal band of accent tile versus two - it just doesn't seem necessary.  But I continue to live and learn...

Nursing Home Remodel by the Beach

This remodel is of a nursing home closer to the water so it lended itself to the watery blue accent colors, accessories that one would find beach side, and a casual feel to the space.  The main finishes remain the same buttery yellow as it's easier to specify and maintain when the materials and finishes are the same or similar.  Trying to keep records of the different finishes and materials when there are 35 projects makes for a project all by itself.  Love the sea shell wall decor!  The commode was another showroom sample sale find that I knew would appeal to the owner's traditional aesthetic.

Before & After: Nursing Home Remodel

This nursing home remodel project is 99% complete.  We turned something rather dreary into a bright and lively space by giving it an updated look with new fixtures, flooring, wall finishes, lighting, handrails, signage, furniture, window treatments and ... (you get the idea).  Wallcoverings do their job by appropriately staying in the background and allow the intended fixtures to take center stage.  The architectural trimwork is respectful of the traditional style while the furniture and lighting pieces with their softer curves give a nod to towards something a little more transitional.

Sublime Entry

This residential entry is sublime!  The simplicity of the materials creates an unexpected warmth you wouldn't expect with concrete and stainless finishes.  Combining the textures of the concrete with the softness of the refined wood door makes this an entryway rich with visual texture.

Restroom Reno: Obstacle #1

This restroom renovation just got started and already there's an issue!  They tore into the wall to relocate plumbing today and while onsite, we discover that the new light fixture can't be installed centered on the wall.  There's a stud directly centered on that wall.  Mount the light fixture off to one side?  Never!

And yes, the wallcoverings will be replaced.

When a Chair Is Not Just a Chair

I scored a fabulous Schumacher chair upholstered with Schumacher fabric at a Sample Sale from a local design center for $495.  Not a typo.  It really was $495.  This chair is so unbelievably comfortable that it has become my most favorite piece of upholstered furniture to kick back in --- I just can’t figure out if I love the chair more because of the price.  Does it matter?
